Railways received 30,000 security complaints in last 3 years

New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) The railways received about 30,000 complaints related to security in the last three years, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Railways, Rajen Gohain, in a written reply to the Lower House, said that a total of 29,906 security-related complaints were received at Security Helpline numbers- 182 and 1800-111- 322, from 2014 to June, 2017.

"It is pertinent to mention that strengthening and up-gradation of security infrastructure is an ongoing process. All out efforts are being made by the railways to supplement efforts of states to improve security at railway station premises, including those identified as sensitive under the Integrated Security System (ISS)," he said.

The minister mentioned that based on the report of a high level committee, 202 stations have been identified as sensitive for the purpose of installation of ISS to strengthen surveillance mechanism at these stations.

The Integrated Security System comprises close circuit television (CCTV) cameras, access control, personal and baggage screening system, and bomb detection and disposal system.

A total of 102 stations have been covered with CCTV surveillance system under ISS. In addition, 151 baggage scanners, 32 under vehicle scanning system (UVSS) and 88 bomb detection units have been provided under the security system, Gohain added. PTI ASG SRY

Maharashtra: Gangster shot at, beaten with hockey sticks, butchered to death, CCTV footage goes viral

A gangster was hacked to death by a rival gang in Maharashtra. The assailants pounced on him with swords and hockey sticks. The dead gangster had several cases pending against him of attempt to murder, and rape and murder.

A rival gang killed a gangster in full public view in Maharashtra and the whole incident was recorded on CCTV camera. The footage of the gore-filled incident has gone viral.

The unsettling footage was recorded by a camera installed in a neighboring building and the video was leaked on Wednesday evening.

It was soon taken into police custody. A separate probe has been launched to investigate as to how the video got leaked.

THE INCIDENT

The brutality of it took place on Tuesday around 6.15 am. The 33-year-old gangster -- Rafiuddin Shaikh alias Guddya -- had gone for a morning stroll by the river bank.

"After the walk, he stopped by for a cup of tea at a popular stall when at least 10 members of a rival gang suddenly barged inside the shop and shot at him with a country-made revolver," said an official of Dhule Police Control, refusing to be identified.

The bullet form the revolver incapacitated Guddya and he fell down. The assailants pounced on him with swords, hockey sticks and curved swords. Then they began dragging him out of the tea shop.

The CCTV footage shows, while assailants dragged Guddya out, the members of the rival gang attacked him as his blood mixed with rainwater started flowing on the footpath and the road.

As Guddya lay there motionless, at least one man kept attacking him till he was pulled away by an associate. All of them fled before police reached the spot of violence.

MANHUNT

The police have established the identities of seven of the 10 attackers. The seven identified are on the run and a manhunt has been launched, the officer said.

The attackers have been identified as Vilas Goyar, his sons Vicky Goyar, Shyam Goyar and Vijay Goyar, their associates Rajendra Devare, Bhima Devare, Dadu Devare.

The prime suspect, the Goyar family, is considered equally notorious in Dhule with its involvement in several crimes and an old rivalry with Guddya.

Guddya, who was out on bail, had more than 35 criminal cases registered in Shirdi, Ahmednagar, Kopargaon, Manmad, Dhule.

Police search Happy Homes after tracing dacoits’ vehicle

While hunt was on for the Tavera in which the dacoits drove away, at around 9 p.m. it was found parked at Happy Homes. Within minutes of learning it, the local police cordoned off the entire area.

“Surveillance camera video footage showed two of the dacoits, who made vain bid to loot Muthoot Finance at Mailardevpally, walking away at the apartment complex,” a police officer said.

Since the gang of dacoits was seen wielding firearm and knives earlier at Mailardevpally, higher-ups pressed into service armed police contingents to carryout searches.

Even teams of elite commando force OCTOPUS were rushed to the spot to meet any eventuality. Investigators were not sure if all members of the gang left the place after abandoning the vehicle there.

“Not to leave anything to chance, we started combing every inch of the apartment complex. Each and every flat would be checked though it would cause some inconvenience to the occupants,” the police said.

The searches continued till midnight and are likely to last till Wednesday morning. Seeking cooperation of the families living in the complex, armed police teams with protective gear continued to check every part of Happy Homes.
