16 CCTV cameras
Flower merchants in Vellore have taken efforts to install
16 (Closed-Circuit Television) CCTV cameras to cover the
flower bazaar in Nethaji Market. P. Pakalavan, Superintendent of Police,
Vellore, inaugurated the network of CCTV cameras on Thursday.
The Vellore Flower Commission Agents Association installed the 16 surveillance cameras at
various spots of the market starting with Clock Tower, which is the entrance to
the facility at Long Bazaar. There are 100 shops selling flowers in the market.
“We spent ₹two lakh
from the association fund to install the cameras. The main objective is to
ensure the safety of the visiting public. There have been instances of
pick pocketing in the bazaar, and we want the public to be safe,” K.
Muthuganesan, secretary of the association said.
He said the SP appreciated their efforts and hoped that other associations
would take similar initiatives.
A control room has been set up for monitoring purposes at the bazaar, he
added.
L. Venkatesan, president, and Arul, treasurer of the association were
present.
R.B. Gnanavelu, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin
Peramaippu, who was present on the occasion, urged the SP to take measures to
ease traffic congestion at Long Bazaar.
