Srinagar: The mysterious
braid chopping incidents send entire Kashmir Valley in a tizzy but it proved
boom for those dealing in CCTV cameras in Hyderabad
Valley.
The braid chopping has instilled a sense of
fear among the residents so much so that they have started installing CCTV cameras as an added
safety measure.
According to reports, scores of people have
installed CCTV cameras at their
homes to monitor the suspicious activities, particularly in the Srinagar city.
A government employee said he installed at
least 4 closed-circuit televisions (CCTV), also known as video surveillance at
his house after nearly 200 braid chopping incidents in Kashmir.
The idea of installing CCTV cameras came
to his mind, he said, after his daughter-in-law's hair was chopped off twice by
some unknown persons.
Installing monitoring
cameras is new for the common people of the Valley. Usually, government and
security agencies installed it to monitor the suspicious moments of militants
and their workers. It is also been used by Police to nab the stone throwers.
While it was also earlier common to have CCTV cameras in hyderabad
commercial establishments, government offices or educational institutions, now
people are installing them in their houses to keep an eye on mysterious braid
choppers.
Hilal Ahmad, a businessman from Karan Nagar
says, it was natural for people to use technology, especially when it comes to
safety and security of women folk. Hilal, who has also installed the monitoring
cameras at his house, the security of woman “can’t be compromised”.
Mohammad Umar, a businessman from Lal
Bazaar Srinagar, who also installed CCTVs at his home after the continuous
braid chopping incidents says that it gives people a sense of security, knowing
that they can keep a tab on what was happening back home at any given point.
“We used to sell five to six cameras
per day but the demand for cameras have grown since the braid chopping
incidents in Kashmir,” says a dealer of CCTV cameras in Hyderabad the
city centre Lal Chowk
“We got requests from people for different
requirements and the demand is growing everyday,” he says.
Over 200 braids of women were chopped off
mysteriously in two months by some unknown persons. The J&K Police
maintains that it was “mass hysteria” that gripped the entire state,
particularly Kashmir division.
The police also urged the
residents of Jammu on November 01 to install CCTV cameras in Hyderabad
their colonies, shops and houses, and at important roads to prevent crime in
their areas.
A leading dealer of the cctv cameras in Srinagar
said the basic model of the CCTV
costs 15-20 thousand. It includes 4 set of cameras, wiring, adapter and a
monitor.
CCTV Camera dealers is basically an electronic camera that is used for
video surveillance. These Cameras come in several different shapes, sizes,
styles, configurations and are designed to meet different purposes.
